Please Don’t Do It, Dad // Original Slam Poem

Please don’t do it, Dad

I know you are in pain

And I wish that I was there for you

To take it all away

Because I’ve been where you are at

When nothing feels alright

And you’re dying and trying every single f*cking night to just

Breath, let that word sink it

Like a kiss on a cheek

Or a laugh or a grin

Because you have kids that love you

So much that they can’t stand it

So please put the gun down now

Please don’t do it

Remember all the days

When I told you that I loved you

And nowadays I still feel

Like you just have no clue

What it means to be your son

Better yet a best friend

And a son-father bond

No matter how hard you try, won’t end

So before you make your choice

Know I’m here and I love you

Please don’t do it, Dad

Go back to being the father I knew
